Well, not really of course! However, as with any monastery that has been around for over a century and a half, Saint John’s Abbey is no exception in having local families become very close to the monastic community. In fact some have been living “next door” to us for over three generations! Though Matt and [...]
Now typically, the above picture of the front of Saint John’s Prep looks like it would have been taken in the late fall or early spring…NOT last weekend! Though the sunny warm weather with almost no precipitation (snow or rain!) has been delightful it does have me, and a lot of others, a bit concerned about [...]
This new icon appeared at evening prayer yesterday. I am pretty sure it was written by a member of our community but don’t have verification at the moment. It was hard – as it is always! – to take a picture of an icon because of the gold leaf background, but wanted to share it [...]
We had almost a full church last evening…which for us means almost 2,000 people. It was a wonderful concert and mass of the Nativity of our Lord!
We will celebrate mass today at 10 am with the Collegeville parish which is a new tradition – or maybe one that was renewed! – just last year. Nice [...]
Whew! Christmas Eve at the Abbey is anything but quiet! Here are some pictures I just took of some of the Juniors hanging banners and baldachin lights for tonight’s celebration of the Nativity of Our Lord.

Their professor has used Columba Stewart’s text, Prayer and Community which talks about the Benedictine monastic way of living and praying together so it is [...]
The annual bake sale and craft fair at Saint John’s was in full tilt yesterday in the Great Hall. The Saint John’s Boy’s Choir was offering coffee and baked goods for the shoppers and all sorts of handmade items were on display from beautiful wood creations, hand painted Christmas ornaments and homemade jams and jellies [...]
Br. John Chrysostom is with us for the fall semester visiting from our Priory in Fujimi, Japan. He brought some wonderful pictures to share and I thought that they might be appropriate for the blog – showing a bit of what life is like at Holy Trinity Monastery.
Pictured above is Prior Fr. Edward Vebelun, OSB [...]
Last Friday a number of the junior monks, novices, a senior monk and I biked “out back” on the back entrance of Saint John’s to a phenomenal bakery nestled in the woods…just a couple of miles from the monastery. “Artisan Bakery” is a wonderful place which makes all of its breads, scones, cookies, etc. totally [...]
