Family Weekend at Saint John’s…

Last weekend was Family Weekend at Saint John’s in addition to hosting a number of college and area high school choirs and of course a home football game. It really didn’t feel like we were “in the country”!
Literally thousands of people were on campus all day. I was giving tours of the abbey church and [...]

Happy 50th Anniversary!

In 1958 the monks of Saint John’s began construction of the new Abbey church, designed to accomodate the growing monastic community as well as the student body.  It has since become one of architect Marcel Breuer’s iconic works and a singular piece of American church architecture.

Thanks be to God!

Field Trip to Collegeville Artisan Bakery…

Field Trip to Collegeville Artisan Bakery…

Last Friday a number of the junior monks, novices, a senior monk and I biked “out back” on the back entrance of Saint John’s to a phenomenal bakery nestled in the woods…just a couple of miles from the monastery. “Artisan Bakery” is a wonderful place which makes all of its breads, scones, cookies, etc. totally [...]

Weekend visit to Collegeville Orchards…

Weekend visit to Collegeville Orchards…

Wow, our weather has been beautiful! The below picture is of me, Br. Simon and Br. Novice David at Collegeville Apple Orchard.  The orchard is located just a few miles from the monastery and so on Sunday afternoon of last week we hopped on our bicycles and did a “site visit”. We had just a [...]

Moving to the last color of autumn…

Moving to the last color of autumn…

One of the “fans” of this blog asked me if I could post some pictures of our fall colors. Even though the trees didn’t deliver the show that they sometimes do we had a great season none-the-less. I took a bike ride today and took my camera along…

This is Simons Hall and a great example [...]

Still Blooming on October 5th!

Still Blooming on October 5th!

Was talking to my mother the other night and she was amazed that our flowers here are still very much in bloom…in other words we haven’t had a killing frost as yet. (She lives in northern Wisconsin.) She asked me to send some pictures for one of her lady friends who just can’t believe it.
Here [...]
