Wonderful students from Saint Olaf College!

Wonderful students from Saint Olaf College!

As part of their curriculum a number of students from Saint Olaf’s College in Northfield, MN, visited the abbey today and had the opportunity to ask dozens of questions about the Rule of Saint Benedict and the life of Benedictine monks here at Saint John’s. They are a very sharp group of young people who [...]

Lenten reminder…

Lenten reminder…

At noon the sun streams through the lantern of the abbey church hitting the purple banner helping  us in a brilliant warm way to remember to return to the Lord during this holy season of Lent.

I am off to Albany tonight to do a vocations presentation for high school students and their extended families. Will hopefully bring back a picture or two of the [...]

Still winter in Collegeville…

Still winter in Collegeville…

Here is a picture that I took out my office window just a few minutes ago. It snowed all night, not a lot but very constantly. Should be interesting to see where this “ends” as it is supposed to continue through tomorrow. Of course, our “educational apostolates” are hoping for maybe a partial “snow day”. [...]

Saturday morning brunch in Saint Bernard Hall…

Saturday morning brunch in Saint Bernard Hall…

Often on Saturday mornings a number of the college sophomore men in Saint Bernard Hall join me, their Faculty Resident, to set the table and cook a meal to celebrate the end of the week together. This week Br. Aelred Senna O.S.B. of cooking fame, helped in a huge way to cook huevos rancheros for [...]

Visited some great students at Hill-Murray School in Saint Paul this morning…

I and two other monks from Saint John’s Abbey visited Hill-Murray Catholic School in Saint Paul, Minnesota this morning. Each of us spoke with a group of students about humility, morality and discerning God’s call.  The students, staff and faculty were very welcoming.   Below is a shot of some the students with whom I spent time.

(I [...]
