A great weekend with live-in guests from SJU…

We had a great weekend hosting three students from Saint John’s University.

Pictured above are from left to right, Matt Beck, a senior, David Johnson, also a senior and Jake Sieve a junior. The men stayed on the formation floor with the associates, novices and junior monks coming in after mass on Friday afternoon and will depart after dinner today.

They participated in all meals and communal prayer with the monastic community and also were present for a group lectio with the formation floor men on Saturday morning. (This was immediately followed with enjoying Br. Aelred’s homemade scones which were just out of the oven!)

On Saturday afternoon all helped bring in the ailing dock on the monastic beach. The dock’s floats had developed holes and had filled with water. A job that we had hoped would be just an hour or two turned into a major effort that ended with the help of a front end loader!

The above pics show the raising and removal of the concrete anchors from the dock and the completion of the raft’s arrival on shore for the winter.

here is when we discovered that the floats on the long walk way to the end of the pier had obviously filled with water and as we moved the pier out of it’s fixed location it sunk to the bottom! Brothers Nick and Lew are marooned for the duration! Actually, we were able to bring the whole dock to the shore with the help of some heavy machinery so that it can be repaired and set for next year. Happily, it was a sunny and warm November day!

Almost all of the students enjoy exploring the ceiling of the Abbey Church and these fellows were no exception!
