Four men take the habit at Morning Prayer

The vocation web site will be featuring a video of the investiture of four new novices of Saint John’s Abbey which took place at Morning Prayer today. Following the simple but profound ceremony a brief reception was held for family and friends in the Great Hall. The following pictures are from that reception.

Thanks be to God!

The novies began their novitiate retreat yesterday which will extend for four days with a series of six conferences or talks spaced over those days. For the next year they will be living the monastic life, working, praying, dining and recreating with the monastic community, in preparation for first vows. This is a time to further “Test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” Contained in Chapter 58 of the Rule of Saint Benedict taken from 1 John 4:1.
